The cosmopolitan capital of Colombia has it all, history, colonial architecture, fantastic museums, great scenery as well as fashionable cafes, restaurants and bars.
Bogota is set in the middle of the eastern arm of the Colombian Andes and sits at an altitude of 2650 meters. The city has an estimated population of 7 million inhabitants making it one of the larger capital cities within South America.
Bogotá was originally called "Bacatá" (which means “planted fields”) by the Muisca Indians and it was the center of their civilization before the Spanish colonized the area in 1538.
