
Manizales is the capital of the Caldas province in Colombia and sits at an altitude of 2150 meters. The city is also the main centre for coffee production in the country and has no less than 7 Universities making it an important city for education within Colombia.
The main attraction near to the city is the Nevado del Ruiz national park which is home to the Volcano of the same name. At 5321 meters above sea level Nevado del Ruiz (or Mount Ruiz) is an active volcano that is accessible as a day trip from Manizales.
Tours depart early in the morning taking you by bus up to the snow line at 5000m, you then have the option of hiking the last 300 meters to the top of the volcano. Stunning scenery and high altitude literally make this a breath taking experience.
On top of this Manizales has fantastic miradors (or look out points) which have fabulous views of the surrounding valleys. Churches, park’s, plazas and a gothic style cathedral are all places of interest within the city making Manizales a lovely destination year round.
